Slowcooker Homestyle Shredded Beef

At the slightest sign of fall weather, you will find my crockpot out of the pantry and ready for action. While I love my instant pot for it’s quick meal options, I love filling my house with the smells of crock pot cooking. Who needs a fall candle when you have a crockpot, kidding. But really.

This is the Ultimate Slow Cooker Shredded beef that leaves you with tender meat and a built in gravy to enjoy over a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes. The perfect comfort meal for any day of the week.

Made with Simple Ingredients

  • Beef Chuck Roast
  • Olive Oil
  • Yellow Onion
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Beef Broth
  • Bay Leaf
  • Tapioca Flour
  • Salt & Pepper

This is a twist on the classic flavors of a pot roast. (I also have a great Pot Roast recipe on the blog that you can check out). This recipe is a low maintenance but loaded with flavors.

WHAT IS A GOOD CUT OF BEEF FOR SHREDDING?

It may sound counterintuitive, but the best cuts of meat for tender, juicy shredded beef are actually the toughest cuts. Tough cuts like chuck roast stand up well to slow cooking, and become succulent and pull-apart-tender after hours in the crock pot.

Place lid on the crockpot. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4 hours.
  • When the beef has finished cooking. remove from the crockpot & shred.
  • If the heat setting is not already set to high on the crockpot, increase now. Whisk in the arrowroot + water mixture to the liquid. Stir until completely dissolved. Add beef back to the crockpot and cook for 10 addition minutes to allow the gravy to thicken. Season gravy with fresh cracked pepper & salt to taste.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes or cauliflower.

Notes

Kid-Friendly: Cut or shred the beef into sizable pieces based on little ones age. (keep long strips for babies under 9 months). If making mashed potatoes, set a small amount aside before salting the batch. Cover with unsalted gravy.
